Rail Baltica names winners of main line construction in Estonia

Rail Baltica has selected two teams as preferred bidders for two sections of the line in Estonia, which will serve as a high-speed corridor connecting Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania to Poland and the European rail network.

The first consortium consists of GRK Eesti AS, GRK Suomi Oy, Aktsiaselts Merko Ehitus Eesti, NGE Contracting, Sweco Finland Oy, Sweco Sverige AB, and TSO SAS. The second team includes Bouygues Travaux Public, Budimex S.A., Ingerop Conseil et Ingenierie (ICI), KMG Infra OÜ, and WSP Finland Oy.

Once the contracts are signed, Rail Baltic Estonia will enter the development phase, and a more precise timeline for the completion of Rail Baltica’s main line in Estonia will be established.

The first consortium will manage the railway superstructure for the Ülemiste–Pärnu section and the substructure for the Tootsi–Pärnu section, with an estimated cost of €394 million. The second consortium will handle the complete design and construction of the Pärnu–Ikla section, which is estimated to cost €332 million.

Rail Baltica will conduct background checks on the companies and assess their past performance and financial stability. Following the contract signing, planning and detailed development of the projects will begin, which includes creating construction schedules, procuring materials, and refining technical solutions to ensure the smooth execution of the project.
