Images I Three new viaducts to transform transport links in Brazil

Three new viaducts are being constructed in Brazil that will improve the interconnection between São Paulo, Belo Horizonte and Rio de Janeiro, as well as improving mobility in one of the country’s highest-density traffic regions.

Spanish-based Ulma is working on the 1.4 billion reals (US$261 million) project which sees the viaducts being built with spans of up to 75m without interrupting traffic on the Via Dutra, regarded as the busiest road in Brazil.
Ulma says that this scenario required formwork, shoring and scaffolding solutions that combined safety, technical precision and speed of execution.
The balanced Cantilever Formwork Carriage CVS was a key solution, as it enabled the casting of 5.25-metre-long segments entirely in cantilever, without the need for ground supports. This method ensured traffic continuity while optimizing execution times for large-span structures.
In sections where in-situ concreting over the road was feasible, Heavy Duty Truss System MK was employed. These structures made it possible to cover spans of up to 30 metres, supported by MK shoring towers in accessible areas.

In addition, Comain, CLR and Enkoform VMK vertical formwork systems were used for the piers, flanges and deck of the viaducts, standing out for their versatility and the high-quality finishes achieved.
The construction of the new viaducts on the Via Dutra represents a strategic step forward in Brazil’s transport infrastructure.
