14 June 2022
Implenia has been awarded a contract valued at approximately €94 million, to design and build a tunnel for the Stockholm metro in Sweden.
The scope of work will see the Swiss contractor bore a rock tunnel of approximately 2,000m in length, plus a 500m-long underground storage area for trains.
When completed, the tunnel will connect the extended depot to the existing Farstagrenen metro track.
Förvaltning för utbyggd tunnelbana – the state-owned company responsible for delivering the metro system’s infrastructure – has also tasked Implenia with preparing the tunnel for all necessary electrical, communications, ventilation, sprinkler and control systems.
One of the requirements of the contract was for the contractor to operate in accordance with CEEQUAL sustainability standards, and Implenia’s project will be based on a BIM (building information modelling) design, with all work undertaken according to the Lean Construction method.
Christian Späth, head of the Civil Engineering division at Implenia, said, “We are very proud to have been selected for this large, complex and multidisciplinary infrastructure project, which is fully in line with our strategy.”
