On March 19, at the AT&T Conference Center, Bernert will take part in a roundtable discussion on building information modelling (BIM), in which he will describe his views on how the latest iterations of the technology are ready to make a leap in aiding construction productivity.

Bernert has said that the next productivity increase will be seen when we understand how to “put data to work”.

“We must first get the relevant data to the construction machines operating in the field,” he said, stressing the need to get that data onto machine control systems.

Then, he said, “we need to create a feedback loop, getting that data back to the office again”.

BIM is here to stay

Asked whether digital twins are likely to supersede BIM, he said unequivocally, “BIM is here to stay.

“It’s the base technology and methodology that allows a digital workflow.

“You can combine digital twins and 3D models and merge them as much as possible, then you can enrich this model set with artificial intelligence.

“This is one of the things I see in the coming years, that will help us become more efficient, more sustainable, reduce waste, reduce energy consumption, for the next ten to 15 years.”

Speakers from across industry segments

Bernert will appear at the Construction Technology Summit, along with technology speakers from Caterpillar, Bobcat, Danfoss and Bechtel, as well as a nuclear engineer from the ITER fusion reactor and the technology lead from NEOM’s vast Trojena project in Saudi Arabia.
