Google to build new $15bn AI hub in India
14 October 2025

US technology firm Google has unveiled plans to build a new AI hub in India, as part of a five-year, $15 billion investment programme.
The company said the site in Visakhapatnam (Vizag), Andhra Pradesh was its largest investment in India to date.
The new AI hub will combine a data centre campus with gigawatt-scale compute capacity, new large-scale energy sources, and an expanded fibre-optic network in one place, with the aim of deploying its full AI stack in the country.
Google’s investment also includes construction of a new international subsea gateway, including multiple international subsea cables to land in Visakhapatnam on India’s eastern coast, connecting to Google’s more than two million miles of existing terrestrial and subsea cables.
The company made its announcement at Bharat AI Shakti, an event hosted by Google in New Delhi, and a pre-event to the India-AI Impact Summit 2026.
Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, IT minister, government of India said, “I would like to thank Google for making this announcement of $15 billion dollars. This digital infrastructure will go a long way in meeting the goals of our India AI mission.”
Shri N. Chandrababu Naidu, chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, added, “We are proud to host India’s first truly gigawatt-scale data centre and Google’s first AI hub in India, which is a testament to our shared commitment to innovation, AI adoption, and long-term support for businesses and startups in the state.”
