Porr wins €532m contracts to modernise two Polish railway lines

Polish railway infrastructure operator PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PKP PLK) has awarded Austria-based construction contractor Porr two contracts worth a combined €532m (PLN 2.27bn) for the modernisation of lines in the south-east of the country.

The first, valued at €400m (PLN 1.7bn), covers the 80km Jasło–Nowy Zagórz section of line 108. Work includes upgrades to 18 stations and stops, construction of six new stops, replacement of 78 sets of points and reconstruction of 80 level crossings. Porr will also construct a 1.7km tunnel through Krosno. The tunnel will be built using the open construction method, with 330m of it using the cut-and-cover method. That work takes place alongside three additional railway tunnels and three road viaducts. The work is scheduled to take 44 months, with trains expected to run by the end of 2028.

The second contract, delivered in partnership with Trakcja System, involves the 15km Rabka Zaryte–Fornale section of line 104. The project includes electrification, track upgrades to enable speeds of 120km/h, and the construction or renewal of 66 engineering structures, including nine railway bridges, four road bridges, five viaducts, and an underpass at Mszana Dolna station. Up to 16 level crossings will be replaced. Completion is due in Q3 2027.
