Strabag wins station contract on Prague’s multi-billion Metro programme
17 July 2025
Strabag has secured a contract to modernise the Flora metro station in central Prague, part of the Czech capital’s multi-billion-euro Metro D expansion and revitalisation programme.

Strabag a.s., the Czech subsidiary of Austria-based Strabag, will lead the €52 million (US$61 million) contract as part of a joint venture with Czech firm OHLA ŽS.
Strabag holds a 67% share of the project, which covers structural and technological upgrades across both public and back-of-house areas of the station.
Located about 25m beneath Olšany Cemetery, the station presents engineering challenges typical of the city’s dense, historic centre. The scope includes replacing the station’s original escalators with energy-efficient models and implementing barrier-free access from the platform to a new minimalist lift kiosk at street level.
“This project is a logical continuation of the successful renovation of the Jiřího z Poděbrad metro station and the ongoing construction of the new Olbrachtova metro station,” said Moritz Freyborn, member of the management board of Strabag a.s.
The Flora station upgrade is one of several modernisation efforts tied to Prague’s Metro D programme, the largest urban transport initiative in the Czech Republic. The full 10km line, running from Náměstí Míru to Depo Písnice, includes ten new stations and is expected to cost more than €4.8 billion ($5.6 billion). Work is already under way on early segments, including the new Olbrachtova station, with phased openings scheduled through the early 2030s.
