Oslo’s new US$168mn metro will be 45m underground
27 May 2025
Skanska, a global contractor based in Sweden, said it signed on to build a new underground metro station in Oslo’s Skøyen district under a NOK 1.7 billion (US$168 million) contract awarded by the Fornebubanen project.

The Skøyen scheme will construct an 8km underground metro line and station in Oslo, connecting the city centre to the penninsular area of Fornebu to the west.
The project is commissioned by Oslo municipality and built by multiple contractors (including Norwegian firms HENT and Veidekke, and Swiss firm Implenia) under Fornebubanen, the public agency managing the line.
Skøyen station hall will be located about 45m below ground, with two access points on either side of Hoffsveien. Works will also include concrete structures, technical installations (such as ventilation, lifts, and escalators), as well as outdoor spaces, access buildings, and finishing works in pre-excavated tunnels.
Additional construction will take place at Madserud, Bestum, and in the tunnel toward Majorstuen.
The new station is expected to significantly boost capacity and support broader urban development plans. The contract stipulates a strong focus on energy efficiency and reducing climate impact, Skanska said.
Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2025 with completion scheduled for 2029.
