Clark Construction Group has won a US$619 million contract to build a state-of-the-art healthcare centre for veterans in El Paso, Texas.

The project to build the 493,000 sq ft, energy-efficient facility is for the US Army Corps of Engineers’ Fort Worth District, in conjunction with the US Department of Veteran Affairs (VA).

The healthcare centre will provide enhanced outpatient services to veterans such as primary care, mental health, speciality care, ambulatory surgery and ancillary services.

The El Paso HCC will be located on an approximately 36-acre site on Fort Bliss, Texas, near the recently completed William Beaumont Army Medical Centre.

The project includes site work primary utilities, new central energy plant, access roads, surface parking, storm water management, site lighting, landscaping, and associated improvements as required to support the centre.

Michael D. Brennan, PhD, executive director, VA’s Office of Construction and Facilities Management, said, “The successful construction award of the El Paso Health Care Centre is the result of VA’s efforts to improve planning and implementation of a design-build project.

“Most importantly, upon completion, the Health Care Centre will service and improve access to world-class health care for more than 54,000 veterans in the El Paso area.”

The Fort Worth District’s team of designers, architects, engineers, project managers have previously managed the construction of Fort Bliss’s William Beaumont Army Medical Centre in 2020, the Wilford Hall Ambulatory Surgical Centre at Lackland Air Force Base in 2017, and Fort Cavazos’ Darnall Army Medical Centre in 2016.
