These 18 US firms won the inaugural GSA ‘Construction Awards’

The General Services Administration (GSA) of the US unveiled its first-ever biennial ‘Construction Awards’ winners, as the agency highlights projects that “focus on quality and craftsmanship, collaboration and team dynamics, sustainability, innovation, and technology.”

The Construction Awards were given to 18 federal real estate projects with the ‘Project of the Year’ going to the Charles R. Jonas Federal Building and US Courthouse Modernisation and Annex in Charlotte, North Carolina. The contractors are Brasfield & Gorrie.

The GSA is an independent agency of the US government established in 1949 to help manage and support the basic functioning of federal agencies.

Projects were submitted for four main categories: Capital Projects, Small Projects, Alternative Delivery Projects, and Special Recognition Awards, which included schemes related to craftsmanship, ingenuity, subcontracting, DEIA, community engagement, and technology.

A ceremony was held on February 28 where 18 winners were honored. The event was attended by more than 180 representatives from dozens of construction companies and other organizations active in the federal real estate industry, said the GSA.

“Innovation and ingenuity are crucial to executing federal construction projects, and GSA understands how important our partners are to achieving successful outcomes,” said then GSA Public Buildings Service (PBS) Commissioner Nina Albert last year when the awards first sought submissions.”

The current PBS commissioner acknowledged the trying times amid these projects, as well.

“It really takes a committed team to produce the construction excellence we honor with these awards, particularly given the unique challenges they have overcome over the past few years ranging from supply chains to the pandemic,” said PBS Commissioner Elliot Doomes.
