The tender, launched by UK ports operator Associated British Ports (ABP), calls for a contractor or consortium develop the new facility to support the import of green ammonia from Saudi Arabia, where a huge hydrogen production facility is being developed.

ABP said the Saudi government is supporting the construction of Oxagon, a €7.6 billion facility within the region of NEOM, which will combine solar and wind energy to produce up to 600 tonnes of carbon-free hydrogen per day by the end of 2026.

It is reported that the terminal would additionally support the import of CO2, with the aim of aiding the decarbonisation of the transport sector.

The €128 million contract anticipates a 30-month construction project and ABP has set a deadline for bids of January 12, 2024.
