Germany-based Liebherr is marking the production of the 10,000th XPower wheel loader at its Bischofshofen plant.

The milestone machine, an L 580 XPower, will go into operation with BERGER Rohstoffe, part of the BERGER Group, at a quarry in the Bavarian Forest, close to the transmission’s manufacturing site in Passau.

XPower wheel loaders feature a power-split transmission, standard across the L 550 to L 586 models, developed in partnership with driveline manufacturer ZF Friedrichshafen AG.

The drive system combines hydrostatic and mechanical propulsion, with the transmission automatically adjusting between the two paths depending on the application.

Liebherr said the system is designed to offer fuel savings and greater operating efficiency in both short-cycle loading and long-distance travel.

Since its launch, the XPower range has recorded more than 64 million operating hours in the field. The power-split drive is standard across the L 550 to L 586 models.

Commenting on the milestone, Matthias Neidhardt, managing director of BERGER Rohstoffe, said, “We value the handling, reliability and relatively low operating costs of our XPower machines. We are particularly pleased that a gearbox from our home region of Passau is installed in our new wheel loader.”

ZF’s Daniel Härter, senior vice president of Industrial Technology, added, “We would like to congratulate Liebherr on its 10,000th XPower wheel loader and are pleased that our transmission contributes to the XPower series.”

The 10,000th machine features commemorative decals and a transmission signed by ZF employees. It was handed over at a ceremony attended by representatives from Liebherr, ZF, the BERGER Group, and distributor Beutlhauser Group.
