Texas university building a ‘Meat Science’ centre

Universities across the world are known for diverse educational offerings and it has been revealed that a Texas A&M University (TAMU) in the US will be upgraded with a new US$91 million Meat Science and Technology Center.

Part of the agriculture and animal sciences colleges at the university, the new centre is to be constructed by Sweden-based contractor Skanska.
Skanska said the new building will be a 7,000m² facility constructed to provide AgriLife – a research and educational agency within the TAMU System – with modern, state-of-the-art processing capabilities.
It will feature an auditorium, laboratories, training classrooms, seminar spaces, and offices designed for graduate students and faculty.
“This facility will support the next generation of food safety and nutritional quality research in meat science,” Skanska added.
Work is slated to begin in December 2025 and is expected to reach completion in January of 2028.
TAMU’s meat science programme is considered one of the premier offerings of its type in the world. The educational discipline at TAMU dates back to 1903, when the Animal Husbandry Department was founded.
