Sales for world’s largest construction contractors revealed

Premium Content

The total sales figure generated by the world’s top 200 construction contractors in 2023 has been revealed in International Construction’s latest ICON 200 table to be US$2.122 trillion, the highest amount ever recorded in the table.

Sales for the world’s top construction contractors has increased again

This figure of US$2.122 trillion is higher than last year’s figure of US$2.028 trillion which was itself the highest figure ever recorded on the ICON 200.

Despite construction in China suffering a difficult year in 2023 due to issues with the country’s real-estate market and a surplus of equipment, China-based contractors actually saw the percentage of the sales that they contribute to the list increase slightly.

Of the ten China-based contractors on the list, two saw their rankings improve, two dropped down the list and six stayed in the same position.

US-based contractors generated the second most revenue on the list, and the country has the joint highest number of contractors at 33, the same number as Japan.

Despite only have eight contractors on the list, France-based firms provided the third highest venue. This is in no small part due to the performance of Vinci and Bouygues.

The top ten contractors in the world by sales contains six companies from China, two from France, one from Spain and one from the US. There is one new entry into the top ten.
