Lane secures $152 million deal to build interchange for South Carolina VW plant
11 December 2024

US-based contractor Lane has secured a US$152 million contract to design and build a highway system in South Carolina, with an interchange allowing access to a VW-owned automotive plant.
The project aims to support the development of Scout Motors’ new manufacturing facility in Blythewood.
The project, for the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT), will also include the construction of four bridges, access ramps, and a new east-west connecting road that links the I-77 to US Route 21.
Part of US Route 21 will be diverted and relocated to allow for the crossing of the Norfolk Southern railway, which will serve the Scout Motors facility. A total of three miles (4.8 kilometres) of the I-77 will be expanded to three lanes.
Lane is owned by Italy-based Webuild. Webuild said that the deal takes the total of newly acquired and finalized contracts for Lane in 2024 to over €1 billion, while North America now accounts for 13% of the group’s total revenue, as of 30 June this year.
