The entire scheme will cost Rs 6,231 crore (US$746 million), with the build and improvement in the state of Delhi accounting for 90% of that figure.

In Delhi, the metro corridor project extends the city’s existing “Red Line”.

Works include laying 26.5km of rail and the construction of 21 stations. Construction is projected to last four years.

The central government – which is footing the bill for 40% of the Delhi construction and 20% in Haryana – said the new line will be a ‘massive improvement’ in connecting Narela, Bawana, and Alipur regions with the rest of the state of Delhi.

Details on contractors and a work commencement date were not available.

The corridor is set to open in 2028.
