As June 2025 draws to a close, Construction Briefing has gathered together some of the best photos from the industry taken around the world this month:
Wuhan Railway Electrification Bureau Group, a subsidiary of China Railway Group, installed the first catenary support pole for the Shantou Bay undersea tunnel on the Shantou–Shanwei High-Speed Railway earlier this month. It marked the official start of the overhead contact system installation for what CREC claims is the world’s first 350 km/h single-bore double-track high-speed rail undersea tunnel, which stretches 9.8 kilometres. The firm has developed a tunnel catenary pole lifting and installation platform that it says reduces manpower by two-thirds compared to traditional ladder trucks, while doubling installation efficiency. A total of 500 poles will be installed. The Shantou–Shanwei High-Speed Railway is the Shantou section of the Ningbo–Guangzhou High-Speed Railway, with a total length of 162 kilometers. An employee of Schwing Stetter stands in front of La Tour F, a skyscraper in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. La Tour F will be a government building in an administrative district called “Le Plateau”. It will be, by some measures, the tallest building in Africa after it was decided that a 70m antenna should be added to the 333m-tall building, making the entire structure 404m in height. Africa's tallest building not including an antenna is the 393.8m-tall Iconic Tower in Egypt. The 74-storey La Tour F is based on a concrete structure up to 300m, with the levels above being built using steelwork. Belgian contractor Besix is responsible for all concrete works. Mobile truck-mounted concrete pumps were used for the lower segments and then from a height of 40m, a stationary high-performance concrete pumping system from Schwing Stetter was installed. Crew members work a long 36-foot-long fiberglass cage into the hole made by an auger cast drill that’s already full of concrete, to create a concrete pile. The work took place on the seawall construction site on A1A near Briggs Dr in Ormond-By-The-Sea, Florida, USA. Florida Department of Transportation engineers are overseeing construction of two 1.3-mile-long seawalls at Ormond-By-The-Sea and Flagler Beach at a cost of $117 million. A wheel loader and an excavator shrouded in dry ice as part of an event to mark Volvo Construction Equipment’s announcement that it will invest $261 million to expand crawler excavator production. It said the move is to meet customer demand, mitigate supply chain risk and reduce reliance on long-distance logistics. These sites include Shippensburg, Penn., USA; Changwon, South Korea; and a location in Sweden. In Shippensburg, Volvo CE is also expanding wheel loader production to include large wheel loaders. The UK government has given the go-ahead to the planned Sizewell C nuclear power plant on the Suffolk Coast in England and has confirmed £14.2 billion (€16.8 billion) in funding for the project. French energy giant EDF Energy, which is also overseeing the construction of Hinkley Point C in Somerset, will oversee the construction of the 3.2GW plant. It has already signed contracts with local companies worth £330 million (€390.3 million) for work on Sizewell C.
