Wirtgen Group’s Hamm brand has expanded its HC compactor series with the launch of the HC 130i C VA, a 13t compactor equipped with Smart Compact technology for earthworks.

The new model joins the larger 20t HC 200i C VA and 25t HC 250i C VA machines already unveiled, but introduces automatic compaction to a defined target value.

It is equipped with the new variable amplitude (VA) drum, which enables automatic compaction.

Operators can specify the required compaction in MN/m², with the system adjusting amplitudes automatically based on ground conditions and machine capacity.

In practice, the technology reduces the number of double passes, lowering diesel consumption and CO₂ emissions while helping to prevent over-compaction and particle crushing. The machine also meets EU Stage V and EPA Tier 4f emission standards.

The HC 130i C VA offers both automatic and manual modes, with five fixed amplitudes available in manual operation. Hamm said the automation makes the machine accessible to less experienced users while extending service life by reducing mechanical stress and preventing jump operation.

The company described the VA system as energy-efficient, cost-effective, and capable of delivering more uniform results on site.
