Four teams of contractors have been shortlisted to submit proposals for civils work on the construction of a 14-kilometre-long (8.7 miles) light railway in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada.

The Hamilton LRT, commissioned by Metrolinx, will operate along Main Street, King Street and Queenston Road in the city, and is set to cost CAN$3.4 billion (US2.5 billion).

Following a request for qualifications (RFQ) process, the Ontario government and Metrolinx have now issued a request for proposals (RFP) for the Hamilton LRT Package Civils and Utilities Work to the four shortlisted teams. They are:

  • Hamilton Synergy Alliance (Applicant lead - AtkinsRéalis Major Projects)
  • Steel City Alliance (Applicant lead - Dufferin Construction Company – a division of CRH Canada Group)
  • Kenaidan Murphy Joint Venture (Applicant lead - Murphy Infrastructure)
  • Aecon Hamilton Transit LRT Partnership (Applicant lead – Aecon Infrastructure Management)

The work involves civils work on the line, including utility relocations, roads, structures, grade separations, bridges, sidewalks, and traffic control signals.

The Hamilton LRT will connect 50,000 commuters to an expanded Hamilton Street Railway and GO network, offering service to 17 stops.

So far, five enabling work projects have been completed for the scheme, with four ongoing and more set to start later in the year.
