Expansion begins on King Salman Airport, poised to be one of the world’s largest
11 August 2025
Construction is reported to have started on the expansion of King Salman International Airport, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. When complete, it will be one of the largest airports in the world.

The project is set to cover an area of approximately 57 square kilometres, allowing for six runways and seven terminals.
Scheduled for completion by 2030, the airport is intended to have capacity for up to 100 million travellers each year.
Foster + Partners is working on the project that forms part of the Saudi Vision 2030 plan to transform the country. The airport is designed to act as a global logistics hub and stimulate transport, trade and tourism.
With sustainability at its core, the new airport will achieve LEED Platinum certification by incorporating green initiatives that take into account both embodied and operational carbon, and will be powered by renewable energy.
