The contract, awarded by the state-owned rail company SNCF Voyageurs, the contract calls for the complete renovation of the Villeneuve-Saint-Georges (TMV) Maintenance Technicentre in the Val-de-Marne.

The project will be 100% financed by the Paris area transport authority, Île-de-France Mobilités, with Eiffage set to receive approximately €449 million of the total contract value.

Once completed, in 2027, Eiffage said the new rail technical centre will be the most advanced in France, able to host and maintain the latest Regio 2N double-decker trains of the RER lines D and R.

Eiffage will leverage the expertise of its subsidiaries, including Eiffage Génie Civil, Eiffage Rail, Eiffage Énergie Systèmes, and Eiffage Concessions, as well as working with the architectural firm LA/BA on the project.

Other companies within the Eiffage Group, including Eiffage Route, Demcy (specialising in demolition), Roland (specialising in earthworks), and Ferlioz (a newly established entity of Eiffage Concessions, focusing on railway infrastructure maintenance and operation), will also contribute to the project.

Scope of work

The contract calls for Eiffage to design, build and maintain the facilities and rail infrastructure of the technicentre, which covers an area of over 35,000m2.

Further key objectives of the project are to enhance the energy efficiency of the buildings through the installation of an Energy Management System (EMS) and promote environmental sustainability through the use of eco-friendly materials and low-carbon concrete.

Eiffage said it intends to incorporate numerous digital approaches, including Building Information Modelling (BIM) for design, the implementation of a private 5G network, and the integration of a centralised control station.

The project timeline involves a design phase scheduled for completion by October 2023, followed by construction commencing in January 2024. The first delivery is expected in December 2026, coinciding with the start of maintenance operations, with final delivery anticipated in December 2027.

The contract duration spans six years, with the possibility of three additional three-year extensions.
