Chinese contracting giant CCCC eyes growth in neighbouring countries
05 June 2025

China Communication Construction (CCCC) has signalled its ambition to expand in neighbouring countries, and highlighted how infrastructure connectivity could fuel growth in the region.
CCCC chairman Wang Tongzhou made the comments while speaking at the 2025 Conference on International Industrial Cooperation, co-hosted by China and Singapore.
Wang noted that CCCC has established a strong presence in Singapore, where the event was held, and by integrating technological innovation into urban development.
He said that CCCC wanted to “deepen collaboration” with Singapore and other members of the 15-country-strong Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP). The RCEP comprises Australia, Brunei, Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Wangt also highlighted CCCC’s involvement in the construction of Port City Colombo, a large-scale sea reclamation project to create a new central business district (CBD) for Sri Lanka’s capital. Sri Lanka was reported earlier this year as being keen to join the RCEP along with Bangladesh and Hong Kong.
And he emphasised how infrastructure connectivity can serve as a catalyst for regional growth and how major construction projects can act as an incubator for talent development.
CCCC sits fourth in International Construction magazine’s list of the biggest construction companies in the world, with a revenue in 2023 of US$105.5 billion.
Ultimately owned by the Chinese government, CCCC has interests in other construction companies around the world, including a 32.4% stake in Portugal-based Mota-Engil and whole ownership of Australian infrastructure builder John Holland Group.
