Caterpillar has launched the 980 GC wheel loader, a new diesel-powered mid-size model

Joining the manufacturer’s line of more than 25 different wheel loaders, the 980 GC is powered by a Cat C13 engine and offers a bucket capacity of 4.3–5.8 cubic metres.

In highly regulated countries, the engine meets US EPA Tier 4 Final, EU Stage 5, Korea Stage 5, China Nonroad Stage IV, and Japan 2014 emissions standards, and delivers 313kW at 1,700rpm.

The machine can travel at a top speed of 39.8km/h and includes load-sensing hydraulics, an on-demand cooling fan, and promises intuitive controls.

The wheel loader features Cat’s Performance Series buckets, Z-bar loader linkage for high breakout force. It also offers the option of ride control and the Cat Fusion quick coupler and controls, which allows the use of a wide variety of work tools when combined with the optional third-function hydraulics.

The cab boasts all-round visibility, and a standard rear-view camera. Cat’s VisionLink telematics comes as standard, while the Cat Payload on-the-go weighing system is available as an option.

Frank Stadelmann, global product application specialist at Caterpillar said, “We’ve built the new 980 GC on a long legacy of high performance and highly reliable wheel loaders with proven components and integrated Cat machine systems.

“The loader’s simple user interface, intuitive controls and excellent visibility make for comfortable and efficient operation, even with less experienced operators. New features to this model, like our Engine Idle Management System (EIMS), minimize idle RPM and fuel consumption to help deliver low owning and operating costs.”
