Initial site clearing and grading work is now underway at the 1,300-acre site in White Pine Commerce Park, north of Syracuse. The first phase is projected to cost around $20 billion, with production targeted to begin by the end of the decade.

The campus is expected to include up to four fabrication facilities and 2.4 million sq ft of cleanroom space.

Full construction remains contingent on environmental approvals, utility infrastructure buildout, and final subsidy agreements.

The project is a cornerstone of Micron’s national expansion strategy and a major component of the US CHIPS and Science Act rollout. The company is eligible for up to $6.4 billion in federal grants across its four-fab plan, which includes separate facilities in Idaho and Virginia. New York State has committed $5.5 billion in Green CHIPS tax credits to support the Clay site.

Micron expects the full buildout to create 9,000 direct jobs and up to 40,000 additional roles across construction and the supply chain. The company has committed to LEED Gold standards, 100% renewable electricity, and advanced water recycling as part of its environmental performance plan.

Construction on the first fab is expected to accelerate once regulatory and funding milestones are met. Full buildout is scheduled for completion in the 2040s.
