Strabag and Porr in talks to rescue €90m acquisition

Delivery of an ‘as built’ model from a Trimble movbile mapping system finished off the project

Contractors Strabag and Porr have entered talks to try and salvage a €90 million deal to acquire parts of the VAMED Group.

The two companies announced in May last year that they would buy parts of VAMED through a joint holding company.

The plan was to buy VAMED-KMB Krankenhausmanagement und Betriebsführungsges (VKMB) and VAMED Standortentwicklung und Engineering (VSG), comprising the technical operations management and construction projects divisions of Vienna General Hospital (AKH Wien), the Austrian project development business and VAMED’s spa holdings in Austria.

Despite signing a purchase agreement nearly a year ago, however, Strabag announced today (11 March) that the closing conditions of the purchase deal remain unfulfilled by the contractually agreed date.

It added that “among other things”, approval from the relevant competition authority had not yet been obtained.

The Strabag-Porr consortium has now entered into further negotiations with the seller regarding the purchase agreement. It is not clear how long those negotiations are expected to take.

Last month, Strabag appointed Stefan Kratochwill as its CEO, following the untimely death of Klemens Haselsteiner in January.
