China Railway Group has completed the construction of a new high-speed railway bridge on a section of the Nanning-Zhuhai line in Guangxi province, China.
China Railway Fourth Engineering Bureau placed the final 32-metre box girder section on piers 42-43 of the Nandu Bridge on the Yulin to Cenxi section of the line on 20 August.
The Nandu Grand Bridge has a total length of 1.5 kilometres and consists of three spans of 24-metre beams and 40 spans of 32-metre box girders, according to China Railway Group.
The contractor said a series of complex challenges on the project including the distance the box girder sections had to be transported, numerous overlapping construction projects, and significant safety risks.
It said it strengthened technical briefings and safety training for workers, developed detailed construction plans and emergency response plans for each process, including box girder lifting, transportation and erection.
The Yucen section of the Nanshen high-speed railway is 111km long and is an extension of the Nanyu section of the Nanzhu high-speed railway.
