Strabag wins general contract on portion of unique €350 million Slovenia project

Austria-based construction company Strabag said it won an €80 million (US$83 million) general contract for the northern part of a mixed-use development in Ljubljana, Slovenia, the country’s capital city.

The scheme – called the Emonika project – seeks to build what is said to be Slovenia’s first-ever multifunctional (or mixed-use) complex, which sprawls across a 90,000m2 area, of which 35,000m2 will be dedicated to working spaces and 21,500m2 to leisure and recreation.

In addition to the office and retail spaces, the project is designed to construct 187 residential “lifestyle” apartments in addition to 380 hotel rooms and apartments.

The Emonika project webpage called the city centre scheme “a modern development and an all-in-one hub for living, working, shopping, relaxing, and connecting in Ljubljana”. The project page said it will construct premium office and workspace solutions, residential apartments, two hotels, a shopping centre and a leisure oasis alongside green settings.

Strabag’s €80 million contract is for the northern section of the build, which will include erection of three apartment buildings, a hotel, retail premises, an office tower and underground parking.

The tender and bid process for the southern contract on the Emonika project is still ongoing.

Construction on the northern portion is expected to last three years.
