Two contractors selected for first sustainable urban infrastructure programme in Greece

Jacobs and Mace have been chosen by Hellinikon S.M.S.A., a subsidiary of LAMDA Development S.A., to oversee the Ellinikon development project as Program Management Consultants. The joint venture will also take on the role of Project Managers for four key building projects within the scheme: Riviera Tower, Vouliagmenis Mall Complex, Riviera Galleria, and the Mixed Use Tower.

The Ellinikon program represents Europe’s largest urban infrastructure development investment and the most significant urban regeneration initiative ever undertaken in Greece. The project aims to revitalise the former Athens airport and the adjacent coastal front, known as Ellinikon and includes the construction of one of Greece’s first environmentally-friendly architectural landmarks.

The development’s centrepiece is the Riviera Tower, a structure that will reach over 200 metres above sea level and is scheduled for completion in 2026. LAMDA Development has planned the tower to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Gold standards, incorporating sustainable materials and features such as a full-height green wall, ample natural light, and unobstructed sea views. Once finished, it will be Greece’s tallest building.

In addition to the Riviera Tower, the Mace and Jacobs joint venture will also manage the “Mixed Use Tower,” a 160-metre-tall building that will house offices, a hotel, and residential spaces. They will also oversee the development of the Riviera Galleria, a high-end retail, hospitality, and entertainment hub.

“This latest project progress reinforces that the most significant sustainable impact of The Ellinikon development will be its legacy – creating green, integrated places and spaces that support communities, business and tourism,” said Kate Kenny, People & Places Solutions Senior Vice President Europe at Jacobs.

“Integrating global regeneration program experience with local knowledge, together we are applying sustainable and smart principles throughout the project to help bring that vision to life.”
