Automatic compaction with Smart Compact

This means, following on from the pivot-steered tandem rollers of the HX series, operators can now use the compaction assistant in the models of the HD+ series as well. Smart Compact hugely simplifies compaction in asphalt construction. After selecting the course to be compacted – base course, binder course or surface course – Smart Compact automatically controls both the compaction mode and the compaction force in both drums. This is based on various physical properties of the asphalt, such as the temperature or rigidity values. It also takes into account the complex cooling behaviour of the asphalt. There is even the option of incorporating local weather data via a weather station that can be integrated. Smart Compact uses all this information to determine the most suitable compaction settings for each of the two drums. The result: Homogeneous compaction results and a significant increase in process reliability. With Smart Compact, even those without extensive prior knowledge can produce high-quality compaction results – a major plus-point in times of skilled worker shortages and a growing number of young and inexperienced operators. This target group in particular also benefits from the contemporary look and feel of Smart Compact, which speaks to those already familiar with smartphones and digital applications.

HD+ tandem rollers – Smart Compact as Basic and Pro version with real-time density measurement

Smart Compact is being introduced on the tandem rollers of the HD+ series in both a Basic and a Pro version. Smart Compact Basic incorporates the asphalt temperature, rigidity values, the cooling behaviour of the asphalt and optional

weather data for automatic control of the compaction energy and compaction mode in both drums, whilst Smart Compact Pro calculates the real-time asphalt density instead of the rigidity. Experts all agree that this value constitutes the key parameter for qualitative evaluation in the compaction process and becomes of central importance in terms of fulfilling official requirements with precision, avoiding financial deductions against the contractor. Hamm closes this gap with the introduction of the new ‘Realtime Density Scan’ sensor, which is seamlessly integrated into the automated compaction. T

This establishes the real-time asphalt density by calculating the dielectrical conductivity of the asphalt mix being compacted. These values are decisive for the correlation with the asphalt density and the porosity, both of which are indispensable for self-inspection and quality assurance.

Dramatic increase in quality, high cost-saving potential.
