Major Serbian infrastructure projects for CRBC
22 March 2022
Construction is underway on a major new road project, to be built by the Chinese state-owned contractor China Road and Bridge Corp (CRBC).

Stretching for approximately 75km, of which 51km will be bridges and tunnels, the Požega-Duga Poljana expressway is said to be the largest infrastructure project in central southern Serbia, although the value of the contract has not been disclosed.
The official opening ceremony for the project was attended by Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vucic, who said the number of bridges and tunnels to be construction would make the project extremely difficult.
He said it was thanks to Serbia’s “hardcore friend”, China and Chinese companies, that “the expressway will become a reality, which will greatly boost the local economic recovery and improve residents’ lives alongside the section.”
The ground-breaking ceremony for the road project took place just one day after the Chinese-built Belgrade-Novi Sad section of the Hungary-Serbia Railway became operational.
Serbia’s infrastructure ministry also confirmed that CRBC has signed a €175.5 million contract for a new crossing on the Danube, located in the city of Novi Sad.
The Chinese contractor will be responsible for the construction of the bridge, plus a bypass road, which will link to the Fruskogorski Corridor, a road project set to connect the country’s capital, Belgrade, with the Hungarian capital, Budapest.
