France’s public works contractors call for political and budget certainty
01 July 2025

France’s Fédération Nationale des Travaux Publics (FNTP), which represents 8,500 companies that build and maintain public infrastructure, have called for more budget and political certainty for construction projects.
The call came during the FNTP’s national assembly meeting last week (26 June).
The FNTP warned that contractors are facing a decline in local public investment but setting out the organisation’s priorities, president Alain Grizaud said there are “still the means” to drive projects forward.
He also called for market continuity, even in the face of local elections that often see projects frozen or cancelled.
Meanwhile, the FNTP warned that the recent suspension of the A69 roads project in the country, which has only recently restarted after it was challenged in the courts part way through construction, shows the fragility of current procedures on public infrastructure projects.
The FNTP said it wanted to see clear democratic and economic guarantees to allow major infrastructure projects to move forward.
The organisation also revealed that it is working to contribute to a French government consultation that aims to rethink the financing model for transportation projects, called Ambition France Transports.
It said it was working towards a multi-year programme covering all road networks and motorway pricing, geared towards sustainable investments, ahead of a report appearing in mid-July.
