Mips and Bullard announce hard hat partnership
18 July 2025

Personal protective equipment manufacturer Bullard, and Swedish firm Mips, which makes a helmet insert to protect wearers’ heads against rotational impacts, are to collaborate on new industrial safety helmets.
A range of new industrial safety helmets from Bullard will incorporate a Mips low-friction layer, designed to address the hazards associated with rotational motion during angled head impacts.
Many traditional helmets are primarily developed and tested to protect against direct, or linear, impacts.
However, Mips research has revealed that a substantial number of accidents involve angled impacts, which can induce rotational motion to the head.
This type of motion can significantly increase the risk of severe injuries, including traumatic brain injuries (TBIs).
Mips’ low-friction layer is designed to move slightly relative to the head during an angled impact, with the intention of redirecting harmful rotational motion away from the head.
Bullard, founded in 1898 first started selling hard hats in 1919. The company, a fifth-generation family-owned enterprise, maintains a global presence with its headquarters and manufacturing facility in central Kentucky, USA, and additional locations in Singapore and Germany.
