Salini Impregilo and Astaldi will work together to deliver 18km section of railway

Italian contractors Salini Impregilo and Astaldi have been awarded the contract to build an 18.7km section of the Naples-Barri high-speed railway project in Italy.

The contract is worth €608.1 million and includes the construction of a station at Hirpina, a stop at Aspice, three tunnels and four viaducts.

Salini Impregilo, which has a 60% stake in the consortium, is already working on a 15.5km stretch on the same line.

Part of the Trans-European network (TEN-T), it is hoped the project will improve the competitiveness of the continent’s rail transport, increasing the volume of goods transported by train.

The project was commissioned by Rete Ferroviara Italiana, part of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, the state-owned railway company, and the entire project is scheduled for completion in 2022.
