Züblin subsidiary acquires assets to expand bridge construction capacity
29 July 2025
Züblin Stahlbau announced a major asset deal with German-based Hilgefort, effective 1 August, aiming to expand its capabilities in steel bridge construction and increase vertical integration.

The transaction includes all of the approximately 70 Hilgefort employees and the company’s production site in Dinklage, Lower Saxony, Germany. Hilgefort specialises in plant-component and apparatus engineering. Züblin said the site will be integrated into its Bridge Construction division and further developed to support its long-term infrastructure strategy.
As part of the deal, Züblin will take over about 40,000 m² of land, three large production halls and associated movable assets. Hilgefort will continue as a product line under the Züblin Stahlbau umbrella. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ed. Züblin and part of the Strabag Group. Ulrich Hilgefort, current managing director of Hilgefort, will remain involved during the integration process.
“I am very pleased that our employees will now use their many years of experience in metal processing and welding technology under the umbrella of Züblin Stahlbau and at the same time open up new perspectives for the workforce,” he said.
Marco Eckert, technical managing director at Züblin Stahlbau, added, “With this acquisition, we are systematically expanding our capacities and competencies in the field of bridge construction – a decisive step in meeting the urgently needed expansion of infrastructure in Germany.”
