Two new generation tractor-towed soil stabilisers have been unveiled at Intermat by Wirtgen. The WS220 and WS250 compact attachment units both feature working depths of 500 mm and working widths of 2150 mm and 2500 mm respectively.

Material flow in the mixing chamber of both models has been optimised through a modified design geometry that enables the rear opening to increase in size dynamically, resulting in a higher throughput.

As with previous models, the WS220 and WS250 use Wirtgen's mechanically driven milling and mixing rotors with mechanical belt drives on the left and right to offer improved efficiency.

"We believe the introduction of our unique acoustic depth control on the WS250 will offer real operator advantages," said Martin Diekmann, of Wirtgen's construction materials and process engineering division.

"No longer will an operator have to look back to check his mix depth, which has obvious benefits," Mr Diekmann told CE.

To produce an even, smooth and continuous surface texture, both units are fitted with a mechanically adjustable levelling blade in the bottom part of the drum plate, which can be adjusted to a setting angle of between 60 and 80 degrees.

Furthermore, the side plates of the mixing chamber can be hydraulically lifted so they are not towed through the ground. "This means only the mixing rotor is cutting through the ground surface which saves energy and wear," said M Diekmann.
