Italian contractor Webuild has added another major construction contract to its backlog of work in Saudi Arabia, after agreeing a US$600 million deal on the Diriyah Square project.

Diriyah, located in the northwest of the Saudi capital Riyadh, is contains a UNESCO world heritage site at At-Turaif and is the original home of the House of Saud. The aim is to create a key cultural and commercial hub in the area.
The new works, known as Package 3 Finishing and MEP, involves the construction of more than 70 buildings and public spaces designed in line with traditional Nadji architecture principles.
Together, the buildings will deliver a pedestrian-focused retail and lifestyle destination within Diriyah Square covering around 365,000 square metres.
The combined value of contracts awarded to Webuild by Diriyah Company in recent years now totals around $2 billion, according to the contractor.
Webuild is already involved in the construction of a 10,500-vehicle underground car park, which is now around 55% complete.
Elsewhere in the Kingdom it is three dams and a freshwater lake for the Trojena project in Newom. In Riyadh, it is working on an urbanisation plan.
Pietro Salini, chief executive of Webuild, said, “We are proud to be able to contribute to a project of such symbolic and strategic value for Saudi Arabia. Our presence in the Kingdom will be further strengthened by work that will have a positive impact on the area as well as the local community. We are enthusiastic about the prospect of developing this new phase of Diriyah Square, an important part of an iconic project.
“The Webuild Group has been present in Saudi Arabia since 1966, having built more than 90 projects. We continue to support the country to develop some of the most challenging infrastructure projects in the world, especially in sectors such as civil buildings, sustainable mobility and desalination”.
