Vinci buys Edinburgh airport, promises further development

Vinci’s airports concessions business has acquired a majority shareholding in the company that owns the freehold of Edinburgh Airport for £1.3 billion (US1.6 billion).

The airport is Scotland’s largest and the sixth biggest in the UK, with traffic of 14.4 million passengers.

Vinci Airports, which owns and operates airports across the world including in France, Mexico, the USA and Brazil, promised further development of Edinburgh Airport by making additional investments and opening new routes.

Following the deal, Vinci Airports owns a 50.01% stake in Edinburgh Airport Company, while the remaining 49.99% stake will be managed by Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP), which has owned the airport since 2012.
