11 March 2024
The US-based Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) announced that the non-residential construction sector added 23,000 jobs on net last month.
According to analysis of data from the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, on a year-over-year basis, the industry added 215,000 jobs for an increase of 2.7%.
ABC Chief Economist Anirban Basu said, “Employment growth happened in a variety of non-residential subsegments, which is quite remarkable given headwinds such as high project financing costs, elevated construction service delivery costs and lingering recessionary fears.”
The heavy and civil engineering subsegment gained the most jobs, accounting for 12,500 jobs. Non-residential specialty trade and building subsegments added 7,400 and 4,300 jobs, respectively.
