Bird Construction and AtkinsRéalis have won a deal to deliver a new interchange station in Toronto, Canada.

Under an alliance development agreement, the two companies will optimise the design of the East Harbour Transit Hub, as well as prepare detailed estimates for resources, costs and schedules. They will also finalise the project alliance agreement and perform early works.

They will undertake the work for Metrolinx, an agency of the government of Ontario that manages road and public transport in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

The East Harbour Transit Hub, in the Riverdale neighbourhood, immediately east of the Don Valley Parkway and south of Eastern Avenue, will support local transit needs in the community and regional connectivity, through the incorporation of the GO Train, Ontario Line subway and future Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) light rail transit.

Ian L. Edwards, president and chief executive officer, AtkinsRéalis, said, “The alliance development agreement represents a significant development for us in how we execute large projects without a fixed price contract model; we are thrilled to work closely with our alliance partners to apply this collaborative model to deliver an exciting new regional transportation hub.”
