Topcon reveals earthmoving equipment technology

On its stand at Bauma, Topcon Positioning Systems has shown visitors the latest innovations it has to offer for earthmoving applications, with the launch of the MC-Mobile system.

Described as a 3-in-1 solution that brings machine control to compact equipment, the MC-Mobile system enables construction site operatives to to self-perform construction layout, create designs in the field and to build to exact specifications and accuracies.

Ulrich Hermanski, CMO and executive vice president for Topcon Positioning Systems, said, “Measurement, design and building with machine control guidance can be accomplished with one system by taking the same tablet display used for measuring, placing it in the cab of the machine, and having a visual to deliver results with unparalleled accuracy.

“This helps contractors be more productive, reducing labor, time, and rework, and therefore increasing profits.”

The MC-Mobile system, which is designed for use on small and medium-sized construction projects, combines surveying and machine control technology, and is suitable for use with mini excavators from a range of manufacturers.

It incorporates TS-i4 inertial sensors that measure the machine’s slope and rotation, the MC-X1 machine guidance controller, a wireless Android tablet, a prism with rod for layout and grade checking, and the LN-150 short range layout navigator for 3D optical positioning.

The system’s local positioning system (LPS) functionality means that layout can be accomplished with the LN-150 tool and the prism and tablet.

Topcon has also used Bauma to highlight a number of key areas, including road building and paving, building construction and surveying.

The company has shown visitors two new additions to its portfolio of paving products, the Virtual Ski solution for 3D cold milling machines and an LPS solution for urban environments and bridge decks, both designed for optimal paving results.

For construction surveying and geopositioning technologies, the Topnet Live GNSS network correction service is also on show at Bauma.
