Three companies bag $995 million deal to extend Taipei’s MRT

Malaysian construction company Gamuda has won a US995 million deal to build an extension to Taipei’s mass rapid transit (MRT) system in conjunction with two Taiwanese firms.
Gamuda announced that it had been awarded the 4.3 billion ringgit contract to design and build a new 5.8km track within Taipei Neihu district and New Taipei City’s Xizhi district.
It will undertake the work in joint venture with Taiwan-based MiTAC Information Technology and Dong Pi. Gamuda has a 75% stake in the venture.
Gamuda said the seven-year-long project was expected to generate about 3.2 billion ringgit (US$740 million) in revenue for the company.
