01 May 2008

The european commission has granted € 14,8 million to nine projects of “common interest” in the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T). The aid is the last instalment of a € 625 million total available under the 2004 budget.

The new grants will be used for technical studies and works aimed at developing intelligent transport systems in the rail, aviation and inland waterways sectors. It will also be used to implement road traffic management systems in the new member states, which will be compatible with the system in the “old”member states.

According to Jacques Barrot, vice president of the Commission responsible for transport; “European Union support is helping to make European mobility safer and more efficient. The technical barriers to cross-border traffic have to be removed.”
