The work involves building a 500m section of tunnel to connect the future terminus of the Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit (LRT) service at Mount Dennis station and the elevated portion of the extension.

Work also includes one launch shaft, one extraction shaft, and a temporary bi-directional cycle track.

The tunnelling works will be performed using the sequential excavation method, also known as the New Austrian Tunnelling Method (NATM).

The contract, awarded by Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx, is being executed under a design, build, finance model, with major construction set to start later this year.

The Eglinton Crosstown West Extension as a whole is a seven-station, 9.2km project running through Toronto’s east end to the heart of the city and west to the community of Mississauga.
