US-based Comanco Environmental Corporation is using a Sakai CV550 for slope preparation work on a variety of projects in its home-stateof Florida.
“Scaling steep slopes while compacting them is a challenge,” said Steve Kitzmiller, Comanco's Southeast US project manager. “Usually, a bulldozer pulls a compactor up the slope, however, the overhead of the dozer, winch, labour and fuel is far from cost effective.”
With a centrifugal force of over 44 tonnes, the CV550 quickly achieves the necessary density. The triangular track drive system can climb 45° slopes while compacting. Powered by a fuel-efficient, water-cooled, 126 kW, turbo-charged Isuzu diesel engine, two models are currently available: the CV550D with a smooth drum for semi-cohesive soils; and the CV550T padfoot drum for cohesive soils. Safety and ergonomic features include a “failsafe” braking system, ROPS cab and seat belts.
