SNC-Lavalin's Canadian subsidiary, Groupe Qualitas, has acquired Laboratoire Sol et Béton L.S.B., a company that specializes in material and geotechnical engineering. No financial details of the transaction were given.

Laboratoire Sol et Béton, which has been based in Quebec City since 1973, employs about 50 people. It will join SNC-Lavalin's Materials and Geotechnical Engineering Division, which now employs over 600 people in Quebec.

This acquisition, said a statement on its website, enables SNC-Lavalin to expand the range of services it provides to its clients.

Commenting on the acquisition, Charles Malenfant, senior vice-president and general manager of SNC-Lavalin's Materials and Geotechnical Engineering Division and president of Groupe Qualitas, said, "The acquisition of Laboratoire Sol et Béton is a further step in our development strategy in Quebec.

"We are expanding our resources by including the skills of specialized professionals and technologists who enjoy an excellent reputation not only in Quebec City, but also throughout the region."

SNC-Lavalin is one of the largest engineering and construction groups in the world as well as a major player in infrastructure ownership and operations and maintenance services. SNC-Lavalin companies have offices across Canada and in over 35 other countries, and currently have operations in about 100 countries.
