In a year that could be decidedly mixed for US airport construction, Sweden-based Skanska has been chosen by LGAFUEL to construct LaGuardia Airport’s (LGA) Jet Fuel Transmission Systems project, a contract worth SEK 1.2 billion (US$113 million), the company announced this week.

“The project involves the construction of approximately 3,350 meters (11,000 feet) of two parallel jet fuel transmission lines, electrical and communication duct banks, below ground isolation valve vaults and cathodic protection systems,” stated the company.

“Additional work includes the modification of LaGuardia’s existing civil, utilities, electrical, communication duct banks and infrastructure to support the operations and maintenance of the hydrant fuelling system.”

Worked started in January and should be completed in May 2026.

Skanska divested interest in LGA

Late in 2023, Skanska announced it was divesting its ownership interest in LGA’s Terminal B.

A binding sale and purchase agreement was signed with existing LaGuardia Gateway Partners (LGP) members – Meridiam and Vantage Airport Group – which each acquired half of Skanska’s ownership in a deal valued at $115 million.

The company purchased a 32% for the Terminal B Project in 2016 to facilitate a $5.1 billion terminal renovation project for LGA, which was completed in July 2022 by the LGP consortium, as well as JLC Infrastructure, in partnership with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.

Meridiam now owns nearly half of LGP, and is responsible for investment, development and operation of the new 35-gate terminal.
