A joint venture between Skanska and Halmar International has signed a contract to design and build an on-airport roadway transportation network at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, USA.

Skanska’s share of the deal, signed with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, is worth $868 million.

In addition to designing and building the roadway transportation network, Skanska and Halmar International will relocate and upgrade utilities.

Also included in the works is the design and construction of a modern Ground Transportation Center, featuring a 1,950-space multi-level vehicle parking facility equipped with electric vehicle charging stations and an “eco-conscious” timber façade.

The transportation center will also feature a 400-foot-long (122m) elevated pedestrian bridge with provisions for food trucks, rainwater harvesting facility for landscape irrigation and a future green roof and energy-efficient provisions for solar panelling.

Skanska said the work would improve user connectivity and access to surrounding terminals.

Work is due for completion in December 2027.
