Contractor Skanska is to build a 400m-long suspension bridge that will become Sweden’s longest wooden bridge once completed.

The Karlgårdsbron bridge over the Skellefte River in Skellefteå, Sweden, will consist of wooden trusses, cross beams, and hangers made of steel.

The bridge deck will be made of a cross-tensioned wooden slab, divided into a total of 10 spans.

It will carry car, bus, pedestrian and bicycle traffic over the Skellefte River.

Skanska has signed a contract with Skellefteå Municipality worth about SEK 380 million (€34.5 million) to build the structure.

Construction will start immediately and the project is due to be completed in November 2027.
