Swedish contractor Skanska has been awarded a contract to build a £115 million (€139 million) office development in central London, UK.

Axa Real Estate Investment Managers awarded the contract for 6 Bevis Marks, a 15,793m2 project that has been financed by European real estate bank Eurohypo.

Aimed for completion by 2013, the building is located in the Square Mile in the capital's City of London district. The development was designed by architects Fletcher Priest and includes floor plates ranging in size from 557m2 to 1,208m2. It is also said to be 80% more energy efficient than the building it replaces.

Skanska, which was also involved in the demolition phase of the existing building, will reuse over 50% of the original structural mass as part of a sustainability agenda aimed at shortening the construction programme, and avoiding risks in the ground.
