The award follows a $66 million package announced in May, bringing Skanska’s known 2025 additions on the project to $182 million.
The five-storey, 33,000m² building was budgeted at $350 million in UVA’s capital plan. Related campus investments at Fontaine include a central energy plant, parking garage and roadway improvements valued at more than $140 million.
Designed by Elkus Manfredi, the facility will contain modular laboratories, core facilities and viral-vector manufacturing space, with capacity for 100–150 researchers and partnering biotechnology companies.
Construction began in December 2023 and is scheduled for completion in the fourth quarter of 2027.
